The PuckUps

    Our Story

The PuckUps was created by Brian DeFelice with a simple idea: hockey coverage can be knowledgeable without taking itself too seriously.

At the heart of the brand are three original characters — Billerica, Bronson, and Morris — exaggerated, lighthearted representations of the passionate, opinionated, and occasionally irrational diehard Bruins fan. They were created to make people laugh, feel familiar, and bring some personality to a sport that is often covered through a much more traditional lens.

Behind the humor is a genuine understanding and lifelong appreciation of the game. Brian's perspective has been shaped by years of playing and coaching hockey, following the Bruins, and working in sports radio and journalism. The PuckUps brings those experiences together with a style built around humor, wit, hockey knowledge, and relatability — offering something a little different from traditional sports coverage.

But the purpose behind The PuckUps goes beyond covering hockey.

Being a fan of something can be an important part of people's lives. Fandom is an escape from the everyday, a community to belong to, and something to look forward to. And it goes far beyond the 60 minutes on the ice. It's the conversations, debates, rumors, laughs, anticipation, disappointment, optimism, and everything in between that make being a fan what it is.

People become fans for all sorts of reasons, and their passion and support should never be taken for granted. That's why the goal of The PuckUps is to add to that experience however we can — whether it's making someone laugh, giving them something to think about, creating a conversation, or simply giving them another place to enjoy the game they love.

Today, The PuckUps produces written hockey coverage alongside The PuckUps Podcast with Brian DeFelice, launched in January 2026. The show covers everything Bruins, the NHL, and the wider world of hockey while building an informed and inclusive community where fans can be entertained, learn something, disagree, debate, and enjoy the conversation.

Because the game may end after 60 minutes, but being a fan doesn't.

    Fandom doesn't take an offseason.
