For the second week in a row the Boston Bruins have won two of three games on their schedule - including consecutive wins over the St. Louis Blues (5-2) and New Jew Jersey Devils (4-1).

Their loss came in the back half of a home and home against the Detroit Red Wings (4-5).

Boston is now 17-13-0 on the season and 3-2-0 without both David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy in the lineup - with the latter missing the teams last ten games.

Impressive resilience for a roster whose depth and raw talent - beyond their top players - was questioned by many, myself included, heading into the season.

Yes, Boston works hard game in and game out.

Yes, they are top ten in both special teams categories.

And yes, they have received top tier goaltending from Jeremy Swayman throughout the majority of the season, and decent enough backup goaltending from Joonas Korpisalo (who has played better than his numbers would indicate in my opinion).

All of the above are major contributors as to why the black and gold currently find themselves top three in the Atlantic Division.

But chief among reasons as to why the Bruins now find themselves tied with their season best mark of four games above .500 - without their two best players - is the continued high end production of Morgan Geekie, and the emergence of Alex Steeves.

Let's start with Geekie.

After recording a career high 33 goals last season, the Manitoba native is already up to 22 goals in 30 games and currently on pace to score 60.

Now is it surprising that the 27-year old is a key contributor to Boston's offense?

No, absolutely not - especially following last seasons coming out party.

But is it shocking that he's amidst a Rocket Richard race with Nathan Mackinnon as the leagues top goal scorer while projected to double his career high in goals scored?

Yes, it most certainly is.

Genuinely good for Geekie - what a great story he's been and inspiration for those who may bloom a bit later in their career.

Speaking of a great story, and late bloomer - look no further than Alex Steeves.

After being one of the highest scorers in the American Hockey League over the last few seasons, Steeves signed with the Bruins as a free agent this past offseason in search of a fresh opportunity with a new organization.

Despite having a pretty strong showing in training camp, Steeves started the year back in the AHL with the baby Bruins.

However, as injuries mounted in Boston, Bruins GM Don Sweeney - likely with the counsel of Marco Sturm and Providence head coach, Ryan Mougenel - decided Steeves was the right player to call up and help fill a void.

What's happened since, however, has caught just about everyone by surprise - except for maybe Steeves himself.

Prior to his time in Boston, the Minnesota native had just 3 points in 14 career NHL games played with the Toronto Maple Leafs over the course of three seasons.

Now with the Bruins, the 25-year old has 8 points (6 goals, 2 assists) in 14 games.

In addition to his official production, Steeves has also had multiple checking efforts that directly led to goals - where he was the main reason the scoring play developed but was merely one touch away from recording a point.

These plays are some examples of just that:

Generally speaking, Steeves has played hard, smart, physical, and been dangerous offensively.

It's unclear where he will fit in the lineup upon Pastrnak inevitably returning - but he'll definitely be in it.

That much is clear.

Up next for Boston is a three game road trip where they'll visit St. Louis, Winnipeg, and Minnesota.
